Juliana Teoh M.S., L.Ac.
Juliana is a New York State licensed acupuncturist. She has a Masters of Science in Acupuncture from the Swedish Institute, College of Acupuncture and Health Sciences, New York. She is also board certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
She is committed to providing individual, compassionate care guided by the spirit and essence of Chinese Medicine as transmitted to her. She believes that Chinese Medicine provides healing on multiple levels because it embraces as a whole, the body, mind, and spirit. It brings curative benefits and may be used preventively to help the individual maintain a state of wellness. She is both honored and humbled to offer her services and participate in this journey of healing with you.
The spirit of Juliana’s acupuncture practice is represented by the bottle gourd. This gourd has been the cherished symbol of healers in the history of Chinese culture. It is associated with healing and protection against diseases and negative energy. To the Chinese, the shape of the gourd represents heaven and earth. It is believed that inside the gourd was a gateway that allowed one to travel between these two realms. Juliana sees the acupuncturist as an intermediary, like the gateway within the gourd, who helps summon the transformative energy within each of us in the face of afflictions that confound our body, mind and spirit. She believes healing and wellness are a journey that empowers each of us with the freedom to live life to the fullest.
Born in Malaysia, she traveled to Australia where she studied Psychology and Sociology and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from the Flinders University of South Australia. She spent seven years in Singapore working as an editor for a scientific publishing company before coming to New York in 1993. She continues to study the art of acupuncture and Chinese medicine with her teacher, Jeffrey Yuen. In addition, she has studied medicinal essential oils and Chinese herbs with him.
